Welcome to the world of Gulabo Sitabo where two slimy scheming foxes in a game of one-upmanship, each one attracting other members to their clan and each one with an agenda of his own. Meet 'Mirza' (Amitabh Bachchan) - a 78yrs old landlord, who would move heaven and earth for his most prized possession - an old dilapidated mansion in the heart of Lucknow. But this garden of roses comes with its own cluster of 'pricky thorns' - tenants. Amongst them most prominently, 'Baankey' (Ayushmann Khuranna)' a shrewd, sly and squatted tenant, who matches Mirza bit for a bit in their ceaseless bantering. Gulabo Sitabo is a quirky slice of life where Mirza and Baankey are like Tom and Jerry - unique and unmatched, friend and foe, naughty and smart, little and large, all combine to produce chaos.

Moti sells gurd in the market. He collects the raw material and takes them to an older woman, Mahjubhi, who makes exemplary gurd. Moti loves a village girl but is unable to afford to pay for the maher (dowry/marriage expenses) to her father. So he decides to marry Mahjubhi, proposes to her, which she accepts, they marry, and she moves in with him. Moti extracts a lot of work from Mahjubhi so that he can save enough money to pay for his marriage expenses. Shortly after he saves enough money, he decides to give Mahjubhi talaq (divorce), accusing her of infidelity. Shortly after that he marries the village girl, and he goes back to his business of selling gurd. With the skills of Mahjubhi taken away, will Moti survive on his own, and will his new wife be able to offer him the support and skills in order to enable him to survive in his trade.

Ram alias Tiger is the local criminal don in his part of the town where he lives with his mother. His mother wants him to marry and settle down, and give up his criminal activities. Ram meets with Rekha and both are attracted to each other, and soon get married. Rekha is appalled at the way Ram leads his life, with everyone around petrified of him. She asks Ram to give up his criminal activities, and get a job. Ram agrees, but the question is will he keep to his promise or will he just pretend to be honest in front of Rekha. And on the other hand is Shera, a dacait with a good heart. Both Ram and Shera are rivals. When Shera hears of Ram attemtping to go straight, he decides to move in on Ram's territory, with results that will change their lives forever.

Kaalia - A name that spells terror in the minds of people, and the police but Kaalia was not always like this. Years ago he was a mere simpleton. Living simply in a shanty ch awl with his elder brother, Shyamlal, Bhabhi (Sister - in - law), whom he adored and their daughter Munni. Apart from them there is no one else in Kallu's little world until one day, an enemy in the guise of Shahani Seth appears. Shahani shatters the happiness in Kallu's life. That same day the young Kallu dies, and the dreaded Kaalia is born, Kaalia's main motive in life becomes wealth, and to destroy Shahani. This path of violence leads Kaalia to inspector Raghubir Singh's jail. Outside of jail, Shahani starts reclaiming his power, and inside jail, Kaalia clashes with Raghubir Singh.

A newspaper reporter exploits an ordinary man for few rupees to pose as a man who is fighting against the corrupt politicians and prints imaginary stories in his name to improve the circulation of her newspaper. People take him for real and he becomes a powerful leader of poor man. One day the paper prints a letter in his name that he is going to end his life fighting corruption. This puts the ordinary man in a fix. He knows that at this juncture he can't refute the accuracy of all those stories. He also realizes that he is the sole hope of millions. Finally, he buckles under moral pressure and jumps from an incomplete multi-storied building and ends his life.

A police officer (Amitabh Bachchan) after the brutal murder of his family seeks some answers from life. Where he was suspended from duty, because of false story portrayed against him by traitors, when he decides to track down the killer of his family years ago, with the help of a street-wise knife sharpening girl (Jaya Bhaduri), and a Pathan (Pran). He was able to make out one of them as underworld don Teja and promise himself that he would not rest in peace until he takes revenge.

Kusum is a quiet and simple school girl who is crazy about Bollywood movies. She thinks that in movies real life related things are shown. She is crazy about a movie-star and actor "Dharmendra" and he is her real-life hero, she will give anything to be near him. Now, she is growing but still unable to differentiate between reality of life and movie. Such is her obsession with movies and Dharmendra that she is not willing to even consider marriage with anyone other than Dharmendra himself. A young boy is deeply in love with her but the girl does not even care about him because she love that star (Dharmendra) too much. In the movie, girl's mama (Uncle) takes the help of the movie star and shows her the reality of movie making. In the end, the girl gets the points and decides to get married to the boy.

Vijay (Amitabh Bachchan) father is brutally lynched by villagers after being framed by Kancha Cheena (Danny Denzongpa), and his family is forced to flee. The young Vijay vows revenge, and grows up protecting his sister and mother by becoming a gangster himself. Eventually he works his way up the ladder until he is face to face with the men who killed his father, but by this time he is little different from them, and his actions have put his family in the line of danger once more.

A veteran British barrister must defend his client in a murder trial that has surprise after surprise.
