Street-wise and poor, Amar Nath makes a living selling cinema tickets and fast-food snacks (Bhel Puri) outside cinema halls. He is taken under the wing of a politician and Chair of the "Garibon Ki Party', Shankar Narayan, allowed to join the Police Academy, and returns as a Police Inspector. He falls in love and gets married to Asha, the only daughter of multi-millionaire businessman, Sitaram. When he successfully apprehends and kills a terrorist by the name of Anil Raj, he is promoted as the Assistant Commisisoner of Police. Asha shares his joy, and soon both are informed that they will soon be proud parents. Then Amar also apprehends and kills a smuggler by the Koya Koya Atachi, and gets immensely popular with the public, so much so that Shankar Narayan resigns and asks Amar to be the Chair of the political party, which Amar accepts and quits his job from the Police Force. Criminal Vikram Singh is arrested for possession of drugs thus the case is called up in a court of law which forces him to approach his lawyer friend, Amit but instead of favoring for him Amit gets him prosecuted. Shortly after Vikram gets released from jail framing Amit for the killing of his associate, Rajan. On the advice of his wife, Janaki Amit decides to run far-away to avoid getting arrested by the police. Meanwhile Janaki give birth to twin boys, Shankar and Guru; Shankar grows up to be a police officer but unfortunately Guru gets separated from her and grows up with an elderly couple. Ironically Amit now resides in Nepal where-by he is a well-respected multi-millionaire businessman, Rana Ranveer and has adopted a young girl, Manju who grows up with him. Fortunately the family gets united and plots to bring Vikram to justice.

Roy 'Mad Dog' Earle is broken out of prison by an old associate who wants him to help with an upcoming robbery. When the robbery goes wrong and a man is shot and killed Earle is forced to go on the run, and with the police and an angry press hot on his tail he eventually takes refuge among the peaks of the Sierra Nevadas, where a tense siege ensues. But will the Police make him regret the attachments he formed with two women during the brief planning of the robbery.

Breezy (Kay Lenz) is a teen-aged hippy with a big heart. After taking a ride with a man who only wants her for sex, Breezy manages to escape. She runs to hide on a secluded property where stands the home of a middle-aged divorced man, Frank Harmon (William Holden). Frank reluctantly takes Breezy in only to fall, unexpectedly, in love with her.

At overcrowded Westgate Penitentiary, where violence and fear are the norm and the warden has less power than guards and leading prisoners, the least contented prisoner is tough, single-minded Joe Collins. Most of all, Joe hates chief guard Captain Munsey, a petty dictator who glories in absolute power. After one infraction too many, Joe and his cell-mates are put on the dreaded drain pipe detail; prompting an escape scheme that has every chance of turning into a bloodbath.

Jake Remy leads a gang of outlaw cutthroats making their escape toward Mexico from a successful robbery. Barring their way is a river--crossable only by means of a ferry barge. The barge operator, Travis, refuses to be bullied into providing transport for the gang and escapes across river with most of the local populace--leaving Remy and his gang behind, desperately seeking a way across. A river-wide stand-off begins between the gang and the townspeople, both groups of which have left people on the wrong side of the river.

At dinner a record is played and the host's message alleges that all the people present are guilty of murder and suddenly the first of them is dead, then the next - It seems that one of them is the murderer but the leading person is always the person who is murdered next and at last only two people are left.

When a woman attempts to kill her uncaring husband, prosecutor Adam Bonner gets the case. Unfortunately for him his wife Amanda (who happens to be a lawyer too) decides to defend the woman in court. Raja (Saif Ali Khan) and Yash Vardhan (Aditya Pancholi) are childhood friends. Though they come from different backgrounds, Raja being poor and Yash being wealthy, they treat each other as brothers. Rani Sharma (Kajol) enters their lives, and they both fall in love with her. Raja and Rani both love each other very much and vow to be together. However Yash, jealous and bitter tragically kills Raja. Rani witnesses what he did and tells Yash that they will be together again and he will not be able to do anything. She jumps to her death, leaving Yash heartbroken. Many years have passed and Yash is unmarried and lives with his Dai Ma (Aruna Irani). Fate brings him to Reshma (Kajol) who looks like Rani. Yash soon discoveres Raju (Saif Ali Khan) who looks like Raja. Yash looks after Reshma but she encounters Raju and remembers bits of her past life.
